FAQ's aka "Crab Feeds 101"

You will get answers all over the board, from 2 lbs. to 6 lbs. of whole weight crab. While 2 lbs. is safe, we suggest 2.5-3 lbs to be sure. Unless you're feeding the local high school or college offensive lines, you should have ample crab left over using 3 lbs., so we suggest having a strategy to get rid of the excess at the end of the event ( have plastic bags for auction, raffle or give away).

While the week before should work in a perfect world, we suggest placing your order as far in advance as you know and then tweak the order the week of the event based on your ticket sales. Ideally, orders should be placed at least 2-3 weeks in advance of the event.

The Dungeness crab will arrive for the crab feed boxed, bagged,  cleaned, cracked and iced. Ice is the key to keeping the crab tasty, so keep the crab on ice as long as you can.

While crab is a commodity and pricing can fluctuate (like soy beans, corn, etc.) a rule of thumb is the price of the whole crab should be less than the crab price at your local super market. Make sure you understand that most of the time the price per pound is quoted on the whole crab and you will get the cleaned and cracked weight delivered.
